EST 2013 — NAARM / MELBOURNE — REGISTERED ARCHITECTS PRACTICE MONOGRAPH — CURRENT WORKS

Buildings that hold the light, take the weather, and belong to their ground.

Corten Studio is an architecture practice working across Victoria — houses, cellar doors, and hard-working adaptive reuse. We design for climate first and fashion never.

02 — PRACTICE APPROACH

A practice built on restraint

We start with the ground: sun path, prevailing wind, fall of the land, and the long history of the site. Working with Country means listening before drawing — our buildings are oriented, shaded, and ventilated by design, not by mechanical correction. Passive performance is the baseline of every brief we accept, not an upgrade.

We specify materials that weather rather than fail — corten, off-form concrete, ironbark, galvanised steel. A building should look better at twenty years than at handover. That patience shapes how we detail, how we document, and how we stand beside our clients from feasibility through to the last site visit.

03 — SERVICES SCOPE

What we take on

01 Residential New houses and considered alterations, from coastal sites to tight urban blocks. Full service, concept sketch to completion.
02 Multi-residential & commercial Small-scale apartments, studios and workplaces where density is handled with daylight, acoustics and generosity of common space.
03 Heritage & adaptive reuse Warehouses, shopfronts and civic fabric given a working second life — new structure reads as new, old fabric keeps its scars.
04 Feasibility & concept Pre-purchase and pre-brief advice: yield studies, planning risk, and honest counsel on whether a site deserves the build.
Victorian Architecture Awards — Residential commendation, 2024
“They listened to the site more carefully than we thought possible. Two summers in, the house still feels inevitable.”
